Maxine Character modelling

I have started modelling the Maxine character by starting with the boots.

This is quite a complex part and a major feature of the character, so I want to get it done right.

I have created the basic shape of the boot, then I am using a negative model for the grip to be cut using boolean.

I told the artist I'm working with that I was looking to add more characters to the game, so they allowed me to use another of their previously designed characters.

Floppy disk asset modeling

For my main menu idea with the large rotating objects, I thought it would be good to create a save/load type icon in the form of a floppy disk. I will be keeping with the flat polygon no texture style for the game.

I got an image of a floppy disk and used it as a template to work out how to model it, adding edge loops where I thought they would be needed on key details.



I then moved vertexes into a rough shape and began extruding in to create the detail.

Chroma Jacket Detail

One of the things I want to experiment with is texture-less models, wher eall the colour detail is actually modeled into the polygons and changed by colour.

I decided to try this on the jacket detail of the Chroma character I am modelling.

I first created a model of the pattern so that I can use it to cut into the jacket of the character.



I used the boolean function on Maya to create the cut.



Which I cleaned up manually.



Nice clean details and no loss of resolution.
